Hatchet 3 film break-down (Decker Shado review)

Hatchet 3 was the horror film of the Hatchet trilogy. It chronicles Victor Crowley's continuing adventures as well as his escapade across Louisiana's Honey Island Swamp. Kane Hodder stars as Victor Crowley, Brian Quinn plays Deputy Winslow and Rileah Vanderbilt plays Misty.

Its use of special effects is the main strength of this movie. Hatchet 3 uses a majority of practical makeup effects as well as sets. This is different from the majority of horror films nowadays that heavily rely on CG effects. The film also has several truly terrifying moments.

The cast gives a strong performance and Kane Hodder standing out as an incredibly intimidating villain. The dialogue is funny and clever enough to make it seem like a slasher movie from the 80s. There are also certain moments of genuine comedy throughout that provide comedic contrast against all of the heart-wrenching action.

The budget for the film was restricted to just $1 million. This means that a lot of locations featured in the film are re-used from earlier films. One boat house is used twice and most of the scenes feel like they're like a rerun of previous films. It can feel almost familiar to those who've seen Hatchet or Hatchet 2.

Overall, Hatchet 3 was very enjoyable. I found it to be very similar to other entries in this (blog) series. However, Hatchet 3 provided lots of thrilling thrills and hilarious performances from its actors.
